States with the most employer-provided health insurance

Employer-provided health insurance coverage can vary by industry, company size and even location, with differences in plan offerings, premiums and the number of residents covered by employer insurance across states.

America's Health Insurance Plans' report on employer-provided coverage reveals how coverage varied in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. in 2024.

Residents of Utah are the most covered by employer provided health insurance, according to the report, with 60% of residents covered. Eighty-two percent of workers in Utah work for companies offering insurance coverage; the average employer contribution for single coverage is $5,016.

Other top states include North Dakota with 57% of residents covered, and Minnesota and New Hampshire, both with 56% of residents covered.

Florida has the least amount of residents with employer provided health insurance coverage, with only 40% covered. Eighty-four percent of workers in Florida work for companies offering insurance and the average employer contribution for single coverage is $5,942.

Other states lacking in employer provided health insurance coverage include Arkansas and Louisiana, each with 41% of residents covered.
